Sure For Men Rockingham 500 - Dario takes first oval win on home circuit.

Scotland's Dario Franchitti scored his first ever win on an oval circuit on home soil in a thrilling nail biting finish just ahead of championship leader Cristiano da Matta.

Franchitti played it cool throughout the race, but a slick last pitstop by the Team KOOL Green crew put the Scot into the lead with 40 laps remaining. Under immense pressure from da Matta Dario held on to take the chequered flag.

"That was certainly an interesting day," a happy Dario Franchitti said at the post race press conference. "The car was good, but the first stop dropped me down to the back of the field after the clutch started to slip. The team changed my stategy and it certainly paid off and that last pit stop really won me the race. It's terrific to win here, my first win on an oval and at home in front of my friends and family."

The other British hope Darren Manning had an excellent debut in the CART FedEx Championship Series, coming home in 9th place and collecting 4 championship points along the way. Manning also led the race for over 14 of the 211 race laps and becomes the first CART rookie to lead a race since New Zealander Scott Dixon in Mexico last season.
