Brack wins Rockingham pole again, this time with Bridgestone.

Kenny Brack collected his first pole position of the 2002 season and his first on Bridgestone tires with today's performance at Corby, England. Sixth fastest in the morning practice session, Brack was one of only three drivers to improve his time in qualifying. His fastest lap of 24.908 seconds (213.763 mph) edged Michael Andretti by two-hundredths of a second for the top spot.

"The Bridgestone tires are good; we've had no problems," Brack said afterward. "We concentrated on qualifying this morning, which is kind of odd to do on an oval. But when you have only two hours and 15 minutes of practice, you have to concentrate on qualifying because if you start in the back it's a problem. The car was good in qualifying trim."

Brack captured six CART poles prior to this season, before Bridgestone competed in the series. He was the pole sitter a year ago at Rockingham, an honor earned by virtue of points when poor weather and track conditions canceled qualifying.

Bridgestone will equip all the entries in Saturday's 19-car starting grid with Potenza racing radials. Bridgestone entered the FedEx Championship Series this year and is the Official Tire of CART.

Quote from Joe Barbieri, Bridgestone Motorsport Project Supervisor: "The drivers didn't have a lot of preparation time for qualifying with just the one practice session, but their efforts should have been aided by being familiar with the Bridgestone tires, since this is the same tire specification used earlier in the season at Motegi. With race conditions tomorrow expected to be much better than a year ago, we're looking for another exciting race, and we know the Bridgestone tires will be there for the drivers every step of the way."

Qualifying session temperatures ranged from 85 to 93 degrees track and from 70 to 73 degrees ambient (F); Qualifying session temperatures ranged from 29 to 34 degrees track and from 21 to 23 degrees ambient (C).
