Barber Pro Series veteran Juan Montoya picked up his second win of the 2000 CART FedEx Series in the Michigan 500 at Michigan Speedway. In a nail-biter against fellow Skip Barber trained ace Michael Andretti, Montoya snared the victory by a 0.040 sec. margin, making it one of the tightest finishes in CART history.

The win also marks the second 500-mile victory of the year for Montoya after winning the Indianapolis 500 in May.

Both drivers battled it out over the final 11 laps of the race after breaking away from the rest of the field in a race that had seen 11 different drivers on the point. More than once did Montoya and Andretti cross the finish line dead even, and when they didn’t you couldn’t put a sheet of paper between them. It all came down to the final lap when Montoya read the traffic perfectly to pick up a brief draft that in the end made all the difference.

A complete wrap-up on the Michigan 500 as well as news on all of the Skip Barber Trained drivers racing in NASCAR, CART, ALMS and all the rest will appear Monday in the Skip Barber Racing News.
