Burke Lakefront Airport - Cleveland, OH - Today's main concern is the weather. The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms by the engine start command. For the warm up the track is dry but the wind is picking up. Track temperature is 91, the lowest it has been all weekend.

If it does rain for the race today the teams already have the experience of a rained on race from Portland where the start of the race saw more yellow laps than green. The drivers will have to contend with a track that feels more like ice than pavement in the rain. I hope that today's race is not another Portland where most of the early laps were under yellow as the drivers try to gain position to hard in the slippery conditions.

With rain being the main factor in qualifying this morning practice will no doubt better reflect the drivers that have their car set up for this track and will be the fastest during the race. Dario Franchitti was the fastest qualifier in the rain but could not get a dry lap in to out qualify the driver from group one that had the advantage of a dry track.

The warm up for this Sunday race day started at nine in the morning. Ten minutes into the session the fastest cars on the rack are Helio Castroneves (123.943 mph) followed by Adrian Fernandez (122.745 mph) and Nakano (122.725 mph).

The CART course observers notice spray coming out of the back of Alex Tagliani's car. Tag pulls into the pits for inspection.

The rookie Takagi runs off at turn 6 and damages his front right wing. He pits for repairs.

Scott Dixon brings out the red flag 14 minutes into the session when he spins and stalls at turn 6. He is given the 8 minute delay-of-session penalty.

Oriol Servia spins and continues at turn 4.

Dario Franchitti also spins and goes at turn 4.

Max Papis brings out an early checker flag when 28 minutes into the half hour session when he makes light contact with the tire wall at turn four. Both the driver and car are okay.

At the end of the session Helio Castroneves is the fastest man on the track with a 126.556 mph lap speed. Bryan Herta is second quick (126.162 mph) and Paul Tracy is in third (126.125 mph). Both Helio and Tracy qualified in group two and start in 23rd and 26th respectively.
