CLEVELAND (July 12, 2002) - Team KOOL Green driver's Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy earned the seventh and ninth quickest times respectively during Friday's provisional qualifying session for the Marconi Grand Prix of Cleveland. The Scottish driver, who will be making his 104th career Champ Car start this weekend, struggled with his back-up car on the 2.106-mile temporary course at Burke Lakefront Airport, after being forced out of his primary car due to an electrical fire in the morning practice session. Franchitti posted a best lap of 58.515 seconds (129.567 mph). Tracy, who was second quickest in morning practice, recorded a fastest lap of 58.648 seconds (129.273 mph).

Cristiano da Matta was the quickest driver of the day and marked a 57.641 seconds (131.531 mph). Da Matta was followed by Tony Kanaan who earned a best lap of 58.092 seconds (130.510 mph). Scott Dixon rounded out the top three with a best lap of 58.094 seconds (130.506 mph).

Saturday's schedule kicks off with practice at 10:00 a.m. EST and will be followed by the final qualifying session at 1:45 p.m. Speed Channel will carry CART qualifying live, starting at 1:30 p.m. EST.

Dario Franchitti - #27 KOOL Honda-Lola-Bridgestone

"The balance on the back-up car (Dario qualified in the back-up car following an electrical fire in morning practice) was completely different than the primary car. I only got one proper run in because we needed to make so many changes to make the KOOL car anywhere near drivable. Our car was much better this morning. I was battling an oversteer problem all qualifying session and we'll need to get that sorted out. We're still a bit away, but we'll be working on it tonight."

, Team KOOL Green Team Manager

"We're not too happy at the moment; this morning's practice was much better. We had to change cars because of a fire this morning. The back-up car didn't handle as well as the primary car did this morning but we'll be staying with the back-up car for the rest of the weekend. We're not far off; we just need to settle the KOOL car down a little bit. "

Paul Tracy - #26 KOOL Honda-Lola-Bridgestone

"It takes three laps for the tires to heat up and I got caught in some traffic on the start of my second quick lap. I was called into the pits to change tires and get ready for our second run and that messed up the plan we had going into qualifying, which kind of put us behind. The KOOL car was handling well but we just weren't able to show all the speed we had."

John Anderson, Team KOOL Green Race Consultant

"We called Paul into the pit which was sort of a miscommunication. If we
would have left him out, who knows what would have happened. It was one of
those deals where we coughed up a couple of laps. We'll go back and have a
chat about it. The car is faster than the time we posted."
