Jourdain Jumps to Eighth Place Start at Cleveland
Michel Jourdain, #9
Qualified 8th 58.442/128.729 mph
Michel Jourdain scored his third consecutive top-10 start this season in his #9 Gigante Champ Car. His eighth place starting position for Sunday's US Bank Presents the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland makes him the highest qualified Mexican driver.
"We improved the Gigante car a lot from yesterday, but we still have room for improvement. I'm happy with the car at the moment though and am confident that with a few minor changes the car will be better for tomorrow. The only thing I need to focus on is making it through the Turn 1 on the first lap. After that it's a long race and a lot can happen. Besides, I enjoy watching Fourth of July fireworks and I know the best place to see them is from the podium."
Jeremy Dale, Team President
"Michel has been improving steadily every session. They made a big, big jump this morning and another jump this afternoon. If you watched his on-board (camera), which I watched for most of qualifying, you know that he couldn't have driven with any more commitment. He was opposite lock from the apex out on most of the corners on his qualifying laps and really hung it out. They'll go back to work to give him a better race car so that tomorrow will be an even better day for him."
