CHAMPCAR/CART: Cleveland: RuSPORT Friday report

Justin Wilson, ...

Justin Wilson, #9
A.J Allmendinger #10

The RuSPORT pair of Justin Wilson and A.J. Allmendinger continued their consistent run in the top-ten pack with today's provisional qualifying for the Grand Prix of Cleveland at Burke Lakefront Airport as they finished the session with #9 car and #10 car in 8th and 9th respectively. Allmendinger continued to struggle to find the sweet spot in the balance of the car, while Wilson lost his fastest lap due to a red flag penalty after spinning to avoid a slower car.

Justin Wilson
"I'm seriously disappointed. We need to get the car better overall to contend for the pole, but we're better than P-8. One of the other cars was on the outside into Turn 6 and I was on the racing line and much faster, but then he cut down on me and I had to spin to avoid a crash. So this was not the session we wanted, but we'll get to work on it for tomorrow."

A.J. Allmendinger
"In practice we had over-steer and now in qualifying we had under-steer, so we're searching for that one balance. The red hurt us a bit because I was three-tenths up on that lap and I could have gotten a bit more than that. So I think really we're two or three-tenths off the pole. I think it's in the car, but we definitely need to get the balance better and I need to learn to get the car around the track a little better too."

Jeremy Dale, Team President
"It was a challenging day for the team. During this morning's practice, both drivers were not happy with their cars and this track requires a lot of confidence in your car because it demands a lot of commitment to be successful. We did make big gains on both the #9 and #10, but we got caught out by our own red flag, which was not of our making. I think we're all confident that we'll be stronger and move up the grid tomorrow."
