Jan Heylen finishes fifth in Cleveland
Cleveland, June 25th: After running constantly a top 5 time in Cleveland, Ohio, in the rain on practice, Friday, P16 was certainly not what Heylen had planned for on Saturday. Especially since the car ran the best it has run all season. After a problematic weekend with turbo accessory problems in Portland, Heylen was more than disappointed when not just once, but three times he was held up on his fast lap during qualifying on Saturday in Cleveland.
On Sunday, the start of the race was very spectacular when Heylen was able to gain many positions right out of the starting lap! Not completely plague free, Heylen was able to run the Muermans/BergHOFF car for the Dale Coyne/Sonny team strong and with good strategy even a small skid in turn 1 and a stall on the 1st pit-stop couldn't stop Heylen from finishing the strongest position ever for the team. Heylen finished as the leader of the rookies and a 5th overall position gaining more then 10 spots during this fast and spectacular race, a powerful statement for Heylen.
Heylen: "Milwaukee was certainly an amazing experience having never raced an oval and this just gave me the hunger and strive for more. Although we had the engine fire in Milwaukee and the Turbo problems in Portland, I knew that when the car would hold up I was going to be ready and gaining 11 positions on a demanding track like Cleveland and this result is just proof of that. I want to give a special thanks for the entire team and pit crew who had performed flawlessly. Watch out Toronto..here I come!"
A spectacular weekend for Heylen, running for Dale Coyne, outperforming his team mate as well.
