Mario Dominguez - Driver, Car 55
"I think the race this year in Cleveland will be awesome and one of the most unique experiences of my racing career. Racing on the Fourth of July weekend will add a lot of excitement to an already great atmosphere and everyone is looking forward to seeing the airport road course lit up at night. Cleveland is a fantastic place to drive a Champ Car because it's so wide and so fast. With the developments we've been able to make in the car this year and in the recent testing, I'm confident we'll be competitive."
Roberto Moreno - Driver, Car 4
"Cleveland is a very unique race track that presents unique challenges to the drivers because of the very wide straights and the fact that it can be difficult to see the apex of the corners well because it is so flat. Of course, this year, there is the added challenge of racing at night under the lights. Depth perception is already difficult here; I think the lights will increase that challenge. Musco did a great job lighting the Milwaukee Mile earlier this season and I think we are all eager to see how they rise to the challenge of Cleveland because it is a much larger track. I do love racing here at Cleveland - I think every driver likes any race he wins! In my case, it was an especially sweet victory because it was my very first Champ Car win!"
Testing, Testing, Testing
The Herdez Competition team has been very busy since the last round at Portland. Mario Dominguez took part in a one-day open test at Elkhart Lake's Road America circuit in Wisconsin last Thursday. He finished the day with a best time of 104.36 seconds, the third best of the 11 competitors on track behind only Junqueira and Bourdais of Newman Haas Racing.
Both Dominguez and teammate Roberto Moreno took part in a two day open test on Monday and Tuesday of this week at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Ideally located almost halfway between the team's home base in Indianapolis and this weekend's event in Cleveland, virtually the entire field of Champ Car competitors took part. Dominguez posted a best time of 66.93 seconds placing him sixth overall. Moreno did not take part in the second day of the test due to illness, therefore his best time of 67.94 seconds.
Moreno has five previous starts at Cleveland including his pole to victory effort in 2000.
Dominguez has one Champ Car start at Cleveland (2002; start 13th, finish 17th), and one additional start while in the now-defunct Dayton Indy Lights series (1999; start 17th, finish 9th).
At least one Herdez Competition driver has placed in the top ten in each of the first eight events (including four top-fives), setting a new team mark.
