Champ Car World Series Works With Intel Corp. To Bring New and Developing Technology to Internationally Televised Race in Oregon
(PORTLAND, Ore., June 17, 2005) Global Events Group announced today that they are working with Intel Corporation, to bring innovative technology to the upcoming G.I. Joe's Presents the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland to be staged at Portland International Raceway June 17th to 19th, 2005.
During the event, the Oregon Pavilion will be filled with technology demos from Intel. The demos will span a variety of mobile and wireless computing scenarios. One of the highlights is Intel® Centrino mobile technology for laptops PCs running Champ Car's 'Race Director,' a technology that allows a spectator to choose any driver on the track to listen to live 'car-to-pit' radio, and also switch between six live channels of streaming race video from 'on board cameras' and provide Real Time Web Telemetry featuring: track map position, throttle, speed, gear, braking and RPM information.
"Intel is one of the top companies in the world and fits well into the high-speed, cutting-edge world of Champ Car," said Champ Car President Dick Eidswick. "We are pleased to have Intel become part of our growing series and are pleased that they will have a strong presence at the Portland event."
As part of the increased presence Intel will have at this weekend's Portland event, the company will have its name on the sidepods of the #9 Intel Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone piloted by RuSPORT driver Justin Wilson. Wilson come into the weekend in second place in the Champ Car point standings, just seven points behind series leader Sebastien Bourdais (#1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone).
"We're extremely happy to have Intel on board with Justin this weekend and the RuSPORT team and we'd like to welcome them with open arms into the Champ Car paddock," said RuSPORT team owner Carl Russo. "I'm confident that we can provide an excellent show on the racetrack as well a great platform for Intel to showcase its products and services."
The Oregon Pavilion technology area will also feature some of the latest phones based on Intel® Mobile Media Technology that consumers can use to access race information via the Internet or take pictures of their favorite race car; Mobile Entertainment Platforms running 3D racing games; and a Mobile Internet scenario that showcases the different ways to wirelessly connect to the Internet -- Wi-Fi, cellular, and future WiMAX -- using a mobile PC.
Champ Car is an international 14-race series featuring some of the fastest cars in the world. The series includes races in Mexico, Canada, USA, Korea and Australia. China is scheduled to join the series in October of 2006 while discussions continue with Japan for 2007. The Portland event will be broadcast into 180 countries worldwide.
"We are pleased to be working with Champ Car to highlight how technology can enhance a spectator's experience during race day as well as at home on an every day basis," said Rob DeLine, mobility brand manager, Intel "Premium digital content services like Champ Car's Race Director, running on laptops powered by Intel's Centrino mobile technology, offers race fans a new and rich digital entertainment experience by virtually putting them in the drivers seat."
Intel joins other Oregon companies G.I. Joe's, Freightliner, Travel Oregon, Paulson Investments, The Oregonian, The Oregon Sports Authority, Trinity Carpet and Entercom Radioand as well as Mexicana Airlines, Chevron and Bridgestone who will support this year's competition. The annual economic impact of the event is excellent and the economic development potential is almost limitless as race organizers work to use the event to promote the State of Oregon, Oregon products and to encourage tourism.
