Visteon/Patrick Racing finishes fourth at London Champ Car Trophy

KENT, ENGLAND -- MONDAY, MAY 5, 2003 -- Round #4 - 2003 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season - Visteon/Patrick Racing scored their first top-five finish of the 2003 CART World Series season as Oriol Servia finished fourth today at the London Champ Car Trophy race on the Brands Hatch short course in Kent, England.

Servia, who started a CART career high tying fourth, drove a highly competitive, mistake free race and got outstanding pit work from his Visteon/Patrick Racing crew. He scored 12 points and now has the #20 Visteon/Patrick Racing entry, which is powered by Ford/Cosworth and uses a Lola chassis and Bridgestone tires, in 12th place in the championship standings with 14 points.

"The Visteon/Patrick Racing car ran very well today. We didn't have any problems and were able to score our first real points of the season," Servia began. "The engineering staff did a great job setting up the car for the race and the crew did a good job all weekend," he noted. "It was a very physical race, but I have been working out very hard and I felt very good, even at the end of the race," Servia said.

The solid performance at Brands Hatch breaks a streak of bad luck with has prevented Visteon/Patrick Racing from fully capitalizing on a car that has consistently proven to be among the fastest in the series. Servia has qualified in the top-10 at all four events this year (ninth - St. Petersburg; fourth - Monterrey, Mexico; eighth - Long Beach; fourth - Brands Hatch) and has now finished in the points in three of four events (fourth - Brands Hatch; 12th - St. Petersburg and Long Beach).

"The Visteon/Patrick Racing Team showed today what we are capable of doing in races," Servia noted. "We have had some bad luck this year, but today we put everything together and had a very good result. It feels good to have a top-five finish after what has happened to us the first three races," he said.

Servia went on to say, "The Visteon/Patrick Racing car has been competitive all season. Hopefully, today's performance will give us some extra momentum for the next race and get us started on a string of top finishes, which will put us in the championship race," he concluded.

This was the 28-year-old Spaniard's third top-five (fourth, Rockingham - 2002; fifth, Fontana - 2002) and seventh points paying performance in 14 races with Visteon/Patrick Racing. It is his seventh top-five showing (third, Detroit - 2000; fourth, Rockingham - 2002; fifth, St. Louis - 2000, Vancouver and Germany - 2001, Fontana - 2002) and the 24th time he has finished in the points in 57 CART career events. The fourth place finish is the second highest of Servia's CART career behind the third place showing at Detroit in 2000 and ties his best finish with Visteon/Patrick Racing achieved last year on the Rockingham oval, coincidentally, also in England.

The Brands Hatch race will be televised tape delayed on CBS on Saturday, May 10, at 1:00 PM (ET).

Next up for Visteon/Patrick Racing is the German 500 on the two-mile Eurospeedway Lausitz oval in Lausitz, Germany. Speed Channel will air qualifying, same day tape delay, on Saturday, May 10 at 4:00 PM (ET). The German 500 race will be televised on CBS, same day tape delay, on May 11 at 1:00 PM (ET).
