LONDON (May 1, 2003) -- Ex-Formula One World Champions Damon Hill and Mario Andretti will share the duties as Grand Marshals at the fourth round of the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, the London Champ Car Trophy, which takes place at Brands Hatch on Monday, May 5.
As Grand Marshals, the legendary pair will announce to everyone at the Kent circuit, "Gentlemen, start your engines," a line synonymous with North American racing. They will give the signal for the 165-lap race to begin, as well as waving the chekered flag following its conclusion. Damon and Mario will then present the top three podium finishers with the London Champ Car Trophy and customary champagne.
Formula One World Champion in 1978, Mario Andretti is often referred to as the greatest race car driver of all time, having proven himself a winner at all levels of competition. Mario's skilled and versatile driving has produced some of racing history's most legendary accomplishments and is the only driver ever to win Champ Car races in four decades. Most recently, the four-time Champ Car titlewinner came to the aid of the series as the driving force behind the reinstatement of this year's Road America event to the schedule.
For 42-year-old Damon Hill, who won one of the closest ever Formula One World Championships in 1996 in his Williams-Renault, this will be a welcome return to Brands Hatch for this is where he won his first ever car race in the FF1600 Championship.
The London Champ Car Trophy race takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 3 - 5 May and a variety of general admission and grandstand tickets are available on the day. For further information please visit www.londonchampcartrophy.com.
