CHAMPCAR/CART: Brands Hatch: American Spirit Sunday report

JIMMY VASSER , #12 American Spirit/Ford-Cosworth/Reynard
Starting Position 14th

"It's been a rough weekend. We were pretty lost going into the session; we have tried a ton of changes. We decided to throw some pretty drastic changes to the car for qualifying thinking there is a chance they might work, but they had the dead opposite reaction then what we were looking for. I had a misfire in qualifying on one of my quick laps, that didn't do us any good either. The car was so loose coming out of that last corner that I nearly lost it; I just couldn't get the power down at all."

RYAN HUNTER-REAY , #31 American Spirit/Ford-Cosworth/Reynard
Starting Position 16th

"We are really struggling here and the truth is, it is a shot in the dark for tomorrow. We will test a few more things in warm-up and then give it our best in the race, but it's not going to be easy. For the American Spirit team to be in the back of the pack all weekend, it is obvious we are having some pretty serious technical issues, this just isn't where we are supposed to be."

*Hunter-Reay spun on his warm-up lap, he did not take the green so the team intended to re-enter the 31 car if time allowed. The final car qualified two minutes after the session was scheduled to expire, so there was no extra time to attempt to qualify the 31 car. Hunter-Reay will be the first car to qualify tomorrow.

Notes: Team owner Stefan Johansson tested his Audi R8 along with teammates Emmanuelle Pirro and JJ Lehto at Le Mans today. The Champion Audi set the fourth quickest time. The test included race simulation; Johansson drove one full fuel stint.
