"There's more to come from the car and me tomorrow."
Brands Hatch, London - Saturday, May 3, 2003 - Malaysia's Alex Yoong qualified in his highest Champ Car grid position ever when he provisionally qualified 14th in the first qualifying today. Yoong who is competing in his third Champ Car race in Brands Hatch this weekend had qualified 17th in in his first race in Monterrey, Mexico, at the end of March and 19th in Long Beach, USA three weeks ago.
He is looking forward to moving up higher in tomorrow's final qualifying after he had lost half of this morning's first free practice session due to a gear linkage problem which prevented him from going through the programme with the car.
"To be 14th in the first qualifying is a bit of a let down as I had been in 10th after the second practice this morning despite losing half of the first session due to a gear linkage problem. I made a mistake at Druids in my quick lap and that could have cost me a top-10 spot which was what I was aiming for," said Yoong after qualifying.
"But there's more to come from the car and me tomorrow. Let's hope the weather continues to be dry as we've still got a few things to go through with the car which we'll try out in the free practice tomorrow before the final qualifying. I definitely like to see us moving further up the grid tomorrow."
Sunday's final qualifying will be at 1.45pm GMT (8.45pm Malaysian time). Tune in to www.cart.com for live timing and commentary.
