As he slid off the track in lap 78 while lying in 11th

Brands Hatch, London - Monday, May 5, 2003 - Dale Coyne Racing driver, Alex Yoong, was having a good weekend at Brands Hatch's London Champ Car Trophy going into the race as he qualified in his highest-ever Champ Car grid position of 13th. The warm-up session on raceday morning also proved that his car was prepared to his liking when he was P10 and stamped his arrival as a mid-field runner in the 2003 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series championship.

The good weekend was, however, not sustained as Yoong, running strongly in 11th after the first round of pit stops, slid into the tyres at Druids after getting into the dirty side of the corner under braking and retired from the race at lap 78.

A disappointed Yoong explained the circumstance of his retirement, "I was right up there with Moreno in 11th, with Jourdain some distance behind when I locked up going into Druids...got onto the dirty stuff and sailed off in slow motion into the tyres. That was it."

He added that, "The car felt good before and after the first pit stop. I'm obviously very disappointed and feel sorry for the Dale Coyne boys as they had worked hard for us and we had a good fuel strategy. But I have to put that behind me now and look ahead to Lausitzring next week which will be my first oval race."

The next race, Round 5 at the Lausitzring oval track in Germany, will be held on May 9-11, 2003.
