A rough first day of practice and qualifying at Vancouver left Max Papis and Kenny Brack 13th and 19th respectively on the provisional grid for the Molson Indy Vancouver. The morning session began under wet conditions. Team Rahal waited until the track conditions dried. When the cars got on track Brack spent the morning fighting mechanical problems with the Shell Ford-Cosworth/Reynard. Subsequently Brack didn't log many laps on the 1.7-mile track. Brack finished the session 29th out of the 32 cars that ran. Papis finished the morning 13th posting a fast lap of 62.910-sec./101.917 mph. The afternoon qualifying session was run under dry conditions. Papis in the first half of the qualifying session posted the fourth fastest time in his group and would end up 13th on the provisional grid. Brack in the second group finally logged some laps on the track and managed to finish strong posting his fastest lap on the last lap. Brack finished 19th on the provisional grid.
#7 Max Papis - Miller Lite Ford Cosworth/Reynard
"The car felt pretty good this afternoon but we lost a motor with about ten minutes to go. I was able to get one lap at the end but the engine didn't have enough power to post a faster time. The track changed a lot in the last part of the session. It got more grip into it. I know I touched a lot of walls out there but we didn't hurt the car. You have to drive the car right at the limit and you just hope that limit is not the wall. I think we can have a better run on Saturday."
#8 Kenny Brack - Shell Ford Cosworth/Reynard
"We struggled this morning due to several things. I just need more time on the track. This course is completely new to me and it isn't easy to pick up. I think I'll be quicker once I get more familiar with the circuit. Right now my biggest challenge is picking up the braking points. The car is a lot better than it shows. It is just me and I need to learn this place quickly. We did make a huge gain in the afternoon. Nothing can equate to this place. I could watch a lot of tapes of last year's race but it really wouldn't help. You have to just drive this track."
