CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES POINTS LEADER SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS RETURNS TO THE TOP OF SPEED CHANNEL DRIVER RANKINGS
INDIANAPOLIS (October 11, 2006) -- Two-time defending Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford champion Sebastien Bourdais (#1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) is preparing to head to Australia in hopes of locking up the top spot in the standings for a record-tying third consecutive season.
Today, Bourdais found himself atop a different set of standings, having vaulted back to the top of the SPEED Driver Rankings for the fourth time this season. Bourdais, who has scored podium finishes in five of his last six starts and has started on the front row for each of the last five Champ Car events, reclaimed the lead in the world-wide ranking system, climbing ahead of Formula 1 points leader Fernando Alonso and NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Matt Kenseth. Champ Car Grand Prix of Road America winner A.J. Allmendinger (#7 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) is fourth in the standings, which will wrap up in November.
Bourdais, who can clinch the Champ Car title by finishing ninth or better in next week's Lexmark Indy 300, has a score of 8.200 in the rating system, which was developed by STATS Inc. and done in conjunction with the motorsports cable network. Current year results, last 10 races, last five races and last race are factored in equally, with an adjustment factor to compensate for the series different scoring systems. In addition, a competition difficulty factor has been included to balance the competitive depth of each series. Alonso is second with 7.950 points, Kenseth weighs in a 7.767 while Allmendinger has a score of 7.515.
Bourdais will look to increase his lead in the SPEED rankings, and more importantly look to seal the deal on a third consecutive Champ Car title, as the Champ Cars head to Surfers Paradise, Australia October 20-22 for the 13th race of the 2006 season. The race will be shown live on SPEED Sunday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time. For more information, go to www.champcar.ws. For the full SPEED Driver Rankings, go to www.speedtv.com.
