PRE-RACE QUOTES Robert Doornbos ...
Robert Doornbos #14 Minardi Team USACosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (2nd, 230 points)
"I'm very glad to be racing in Holland this weekend. I've been very busy doing a lot of PR activities for weeks now, and I'm now ready to get the race weekend under way. Last weekend wasn't such a great result, but the whole team is feeling positive, and it's a big motivator to be in front of my home crowd. There were a lot of Dutch fans in Zolder, but I think this race will be a bit crazier . . . all in all, I'm looking forward to it!"
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (4th, 211 points)
"I'm really looking forward to Assen. The Dutch race fans are fantastic so I'm sure there'll be a great atmosphere. It's another track I don't know, but from everything I've seen it looks like a fast circuit. I hope we can find a good base set-up and get some smooth running during the practice sessions. Hopefully we can get back on the podium for CDW, Plantronics and our other partners."
Neel Jani #21 Red Bull Gulfstream Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (7th, 182 points)
"The Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing team has had some good results this year and we are in contention for a place in the top-five in the standings, but we are not where we want to be. We definitely have improved the car since the beginning of the season, but we need to make it even better if we are going to make a run at the top-three in the championship standings. I am confident we can do that, but we have to start with a good qualifying effort and race this weekend in Holland."
Alex Tagliani #8 Rocketsports Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (8th, 174 points)
"We had a disappointing race last weekend in Belgium, but we had a quick car. So I am hoping that we can at least continue to set up a car that is quick on road courses this weekend at the Assen circuit. I am very excited to race at the TT Circuit Assen. From the pictures and videos that I have seen it looks fast and has all the features that you expect from a top flight European track. There are some good passing zones, and the Dutch fans are passionate about motorsports so I hope that Champ Car can put on a race that they will remember."
Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay by Touch MegaSpirea Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (12th, 117 points)
"The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing team had a difficult race in Belgium. We have had some things not go our way this season, but that is racing. We have to do a better job in qualifying and I think things will get better for us in the races. Everyone is still working very hard, so I am still very confident."
Dan Clarke #4 Minardi Team USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (13h, 110 points)
"We're still waiting to find out in what capacity I will be used for the race at Assen. Last weekend ended up being kind of fun, as I had the opportunity to do some other things and help out the team. I got to work the lollipop for Mario, and spend some time in Race Control with Tony Cotman. It was nice to get support from other people in the paddock, as well as from the fans, but I'm ready to get back in the car."
Ryan Dalziel #28 PCM Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (14th, 105 points)
"I am Looking forward to the second leg of the European tour. Hopefully we can build on our race pace that we had at Zolder and start more competitively out of the box than we did last weekend. I am in Scotland this week, Alex and I just left knockhill racing circuit, my home track and Alex took a few laps. It's his first time here, so I am showing him all of my local haunts and we are having a great time. I've never been to the Assen circuit, but I know it is fast and I am looking forward to it."
Jan Heylen #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (16th, 77 points)
"Our weekend in Zolder definitely didn't go as well as we had hoped so we are looking forward to a better result at the upcoming Assen race. After our gear problem during the race last Sunday, I know that the Conquest team has been working hard to get the car ready for practice and qualifying in just a few days and I'm sure that they will have it in top performance despite the short timetable. I also look forward to having Herman and the rest of our Grafiprint guests visiting again and hope to have a better finish for them at this weekend's Bavaria Champ Car Grand Prix in Assen, Holland."
Alex Figge #29 PCM Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (17th, 72 points)
"This is my first time racing in Europe. It has been a great experience. I think Zolder was a strong event, the fans are very knowledgeable about Champ Car, that is really cool. Feels like a long way from home, but that also helps you keep your head down and focus. We struggled in the Plain Jane car a bit at Zolder. I guess that is to be expected though as a new team with rookie drivers, we feel like we are a little bit behind. We did make a lot of progress, we picked up speed continually through the weekend and we'll continue that momentum this weekend in Assen. It's important for Ryan and I to get a good result in before our seven week break. I am having a great time up here in Scotland. Ryan and I arrived on Monday and we are having a blast. Ryan served me black pudding for breakfast this morning, I let him know that is as close as I will come to Haggis! It is awesome to be here, I've been really close with Ryan's family for years, so I feel right at home. We are on our way to a local pub tonight for a soccer match, so I am sure that will be an experience."
