Jan Heylen Scores First Podium Finish of the Season for Conquest Racing at Today's Inaugural Bavaria Champ Car Grand Prix Event
After his seventh position start Jan battles to a Champ Car career high 2nd position
After finishing in first position in the morning warm up session, Jan Heylen (#34 Grafiprint / Cosworth / DP01 / Bridgestone) went on to finish his European visit on a high note with a second place finish at the Bavaria Champ Car Grand Prix of Holland at the TT Circuit Assen. Jan and the entire team were revved up for event, fueled by the adrenaline from the morning warm up session and ready to drive for a podium finish.
Jan began the race in seventh position, his best start of the season and immediately began saving fuel in order to maximize the number of laps between pit stops. While he had slipped a position on the start, Jan was quickly able to begin passing his way through the field. He overtook a total of five cars on his way to second place. The pit and fuel strategy employed by the Conquest Racing engineering staff proceeded flawlessly for the entire race with the first two stops being done as planned under yellow flag conditions and then his final stop on pace with the leader, Justin Wilson. The smart fuel strategy allowed Jan to drive a three stop race, that combined with his passing ability on the course helped him earn his first trip to the Champ Car podium.
Jan Heylen Quote
"We finally had everything work out for us after a rough start of the season," said Heylen.
From the first session on Friday, we knew we had a fast car and we were really encouraged by all of our sessions leading up to the race because at each session we were getting better and learning more. I'm very happy for the team and all of our guests from Grafiprint. The promoters have done an amazing job at both of these European events so I think both Zolder and Assen can be considered a great success."

"We have to appreciate this performance from just a one car Team effort on a new track for the Champ Car community. This Team has been progressing during the whole season and we are all excited to compete now at the top of the field. These two European races have been a great success for Champ Car and we all want to thank both promoters for making this happen."
