RACE STATUS: The race ran from the 11:38 AM PT start time until it was red flagged at 12:12 PM after Lap 33 of 250 due to intermittent rain than continued until CART's Race Control department made the decision to postpone the event until Monday, October 29 at 10:00 AM. Juan Montoya was leading the event, followed by Dario Franchitti and Andretti. Fittipaldi dropped from fifth place to 14th due to a troubled pit stop when the air hose became tangled in the front wing.

MICHAEL ANDRETTI, # 6 Big Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth Lola
POSITION BEFORE THE RED FLAG: 3rd RAN AS HIGH AS: 2nd

"We were actually lucky that the rain came because we were able to fix the ninth butterfly (which controls boost, among other things). We were down about 40 horsepower because we were running with about 38" of boost so I was pretty surprised we could stay in the top-three. The car was running good other than that. The rain might have saved us although it is too bad for the fans. It's hard to expect 70,000 people to play hooky tomorrow but it would be nice to have everyone come back because it is going to be a good show when it finally happens."

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, #11 Big Kmart/Route 66 Ford Lola:
POSITION BEFORE THE RED FLAG: 14th (Dropped from fifth to 14th place during his first pit stop when the air hose for the outside front tire became tangled in the front wing.) RAN AS HIGH AS: 3rd

"The car was good. We had a little bit of understeer but it was not a major problem. It is a shame that we had a bad pit stop but it is a long race and we will have plenty of laps to make up for it. It's a shame that the rain came because the crowd was good and they were all partying and yelling during the opening ceremonies. I hope that they can come back tomorrow."
