A persistent rain that flooded the track stopped anyone from besting A.J. Allmendinger's Friday top qualifying speed and the sophomore Champ Car World Series driver will pace an 18-car field to the green flags for Sunday's inaugural West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix of Edmonton.

Teammate and most recent race winner Justin Wilson joins Allmendinger on the front row, while 2003 CART/Champ Car World Series titleholder Paul Tracy holds third place on the grid. Oriol Servia earned fourth grid slot in his fifth drive in relief of injured Bruno Junqueira.

Allmendinger was again the fastest driver on the 1.96-mile Edmonton airport circuit this afternoon, leading Tracy with his laps of 61.070 seconds. The Canadian turned 61.529 seconds while Ronnie Bremer - in his first drive for Dale Coyne was third quickest at 62.184 seconds.

After a crash that placed him back in tenth for the start of Sunday's 88- lap contest, current champion and point leader Sebastien Bourdais held the fourth speed at 62.799 seconds while Ricardo Sperafico was fifth for Coyne at 63.512 seconds.

Three drivers didn't even bother to record a qualifying lap this afternoon as Justin Wilson, 1996 champion Jimmy Vasser and Alex Tagliani - who starts sixth tomorrow afternoon - stayed on the sidelines.
