(December 22, 1998) - Two-time FedEx Championship Series champion Al Unser Jr. (Marlboro Penske Mercedes) completed one of the heaviest workloads of any driver last week, logging a total of 963 miles in two tests split between Sebring International Raceway and the oval at Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

He reached 215.4 miles per hour Saturday during his quickest lap of the Homestead oval, where he completed 614 miles overall. "Penske cars has really built a beautiful car for us," Unser Jr. said. "We ran four days with good reliability and no major mechanical issues. The '99 Marlboro Penske Mercedes has good power down, with the Mercedes engine and the Penske transmission. Goodyear has made a lot of progress, and the car is secure in the corners."

"We continued to improve in each session, and we learned a lot about the car. I can't wait to get behind the wheel again for more development testing as we prepare for the 1999 FedEx Championship Series."
