Castroneves involved in opening lap crash at Sonoma

Will Power's closest title rival encountered issues quickly at Sonoma.

In the first turn of the first lap at Sonoma, chaos ensued as multiple cars went spinning in a chain-reaction crash.

Helio Castroneves, James Hinchcliffe, Ryan Briscoe, and Sebastien Bourdais were all involved. A number of cars were sent into the dirt in avoidance of the stricken race cars. All four drivers were able to continue but obviously needed some work done in the pits.

The race was put under a full-course caution as Will Power leads. Helio came into this race 39 points adrift of his teammate and had started in the sixth position.

The 85 lap event resumed on lap five and the restart went off without another incident.
