Nazareth, PA (March 14, 2003) -- Nazareth Speedway will open the gates on April 5, 2003 for an inaugural "Opening Day" event, which is designed to give race fans a unique experience.
Additionally, the event will mark the final day to purchase tickets to either the NASCAR Busch Series or IRL IndyCar Series at the discounted advance ticket prices.
"We wanted to provide our fans with a distinctive way to purchase tickets for our upcoming events and also offer them a chance to drive on the same track as some of the most famous drivers in motorsports history," said track president Craig Rust. "We hope that this can become an annual event at Nazareth Speedway for years to come."
For the first time ever, fans young and old will be given the opportunity to drive their vehicles around the historic tri-oval for three controlled laps behind the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, the official pace car of Nazareth Speedway.
The cost of the three laps around the track will be $10 per four-wheel vehicle, while a ride in the pace car will also cost $10. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase photos of their cars on the track near the Nazareth Speedway tunnel ticket office.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Victory Junction, a charity founded by Paul Newman and Kyle and Pattie Petty designed to raise funds to build The Victory Junction Gang Camp -- a medical camp for children and their families living with chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses. For information on the charity, please visit www.victoryjunction.org for details.
Vehicles will use Gate 1 to enter the facility and follow the signs located on property.
The race season begins at Nazareth Speedway on May 17-18, 2003 with the return of the NASCAR Busch Series to the Lehigh Valley. Jason Keller will return to defend his title at "The World's Fastest Mile" against some of the most talented drivers on the circuit, including Randy LaJoie, Scott Riggs, Scott Wimmer, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and Kerry Earnhardt. And don't miss all the action of the Service Electric 100, as Nevin George, Tony Hirschman and Ted Christopher renew their battle for NASCAR Featherlite Modified title.
