Kansas Speedway Tickets Go On Sale
By: Mark Merrell
Kansas City, Kansas- Fans around the country have been awaiting word as to when tickets for the new Kansas Speedway would go on sale, and that question has now been answered, as race tickets will be ready to obtain for the inaugural 2001 racing season this month. Track officials have also announced that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will compete Saturday, July 7, 2001, joining the Indy Racing League Northern Light Series race Sunday, July 8.
NASCAR Senior Vice President Mike Helton commented on the addition to the 2001 NASCAR Craftsman Truck schedule, stating that, "We're very happy to bring the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to the fans in Kansas. The amount of enthusiasm and excitement surrounding the current NASCAR races scheduled for their state-of-the -art facility demonstrates that we have a strong fan base in the Midwest, and we look to keep the excitement growing by giving the fans the opportunity to see the trucks in action next year."
Arguably, the most anticipated event for Kansas Speedway will take place two months latter, when the NASCAR Busch Grand National and the NASCAR Winston Cup Series come to Kansas City, Kansas September 29, and 30.
The two weekend season tickets, dubbed the RPM Ticket Package (Racing's Premier Motorsports Ticket Package) will first be offered to residents of Wyandotte County, August 17-18. Two Price Chopper locations in Wyandotte County (Bonner Springs, 43rd and State Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas, & 78th and State Ave in Kansas City, Kansas) will be ready to offer ticket sales for the RPM season package (in person) from 9am-5pm. Fans can also call the Kansas Speedway ticket office at (913) 328-RACE (7223), on line at www.kansasspeedway.com, or by mail; 1333 Meadow Lark Lane, Ste. 201, Kansas City, Kansas 66102. The only methods of payment will be money order, check, or credit card (no cash). Be sure to bring your photo ID and a 1999 Wyandotte County personal property tax receipt. The mailing address on the purchaser's account must be a Wyandotte County address.
For the rest of the world, the RPM package will go on sale Monday, August 21. The same outlets will be waiting for RPM orders, including greater Kansas City area Price Chopper stores (in person from 9am to 5pm through Saturday, August 26). RPM prices range from $170 (first five rows), $190-$205 (center, lower level), $175-$195 (lower level in turns one & four), $250-$270 (upper level in turns one & four). Prices include Saturday and Sunday race dates only. For those that have purchased the P.A.S.S. (Preferred Access Speedway Seating which currently remains available) the season ticket prices are; $250 (tower), $270 (sky tower), and $330 (club level).
For fans who wish to utilize their RVs, 775 spaces, 20-by-45-feet, will be available for purchase to Wyandotte County residents Wednesday, August 16, and to everyone else the next day. Wyandotte County residents will need to again provide proof of residency, and are urged to call the Kansas Speedway tickets office for details. Prices in Kansas Speedway's Fleetwood RV Reserved Infield area are $375. Sites are track-side, as well as non-trackside along turns one, two, four, and down the backstretch. Prime parking on the Motor Home Terrace is a mere $2,000 and are located on a bluff on the backstretch overlooking the entire track. All prices reflect both racing weekends, but race tickets and extra vehicle costs may apply.
No coolers will be allowed in the grandstands. Single race day tickets may go on sale in the future, but only if needed. The RPM tickets are good for Saturday / Sunday race dates only. Tickets for qualifying and practice leading up to both weekends (Thursday and Friday) are not yet on sale.
