Double Podium for Team Target in Inaugural Grand Prix of Alabama
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 12, 2010) -- Target Chip Ganassi Racing (TCGR) claimed the second and third rungs of the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama podium with Scott Dixon finishing second and Dario Franchitti third at Barber Motorsports Park.
Dixon started fifth and got a great jump at the start, but was ordered by IRL officials to relinquish the position and settle back into his original grid position. He would run in the top three throughout the 90-lap before securing the second place result.
Franchitti lined-up seventh and worked his way to fourth after making a wing adjustment on the team's first stop. He would go on to finish third behind Dixon in the No.10 Suave car.
- Dixon finished a season-best second-place - his first podium finish of the season.
- Franchitti finished a season-best second-place - his first podium finish of the season.
With the finishes, Dixon jumps from 11th to fifth in IZOD IndyCar Series points with 80, while Franchitti sits third with 94. Leader Will Power holds the top spot with 136 points.
Up next for Team Target is Round 4 of the IZOD IndyCar Series at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on the streets on Long Beach, Calif. Sunday, April 11th.
Dario Franchitti: "The Target team was working hard on the fuel strategy today. Will Power and I were side by side at the end there, but with so many lap cars in between us, it was really hard to fight for the positions. I am pleased to be on the podium and sit second in points after starting in seventh today. It was great to see all the fans. The atmosphere here was incredible and I am looking forward to returning to this track in the future."
Scott Dixon: "It was a good day for Team Target all in all with both cars in the top three. We could have been better off if we would have got around Helio. It was hard to save fuel and try to manage the fuel gauge, but still push. This track is all about track position. It was great weekend for the team. Standing at the podium in second and third is pretty impressive. We are looking forward to Long Beach."
