Will Power, who scored his third IndyCar win of the season on Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park, says he believes he can still beat Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi in the title fight.
Will Power produced his third win of the season in storming fashion after a great fight with Scott Dixon around the 1.25-mile oval just outside St. Louis, while the points leader finished third after falling behind Alexander Rossi who made one fewer pitstop.
Alexander Rossi and Scott Dixon were fastest in tonight’s final practice at Gateway and will start from the front row tomorrow, but Pietro Fittipaldi who starts last, put his Dale Coyne Racing car in third in a Honda-dominated session.
Scott Dixon has scored his first pole position since last year’s Indy 500, but this time earned while standing still, as rain at Gateway forced IndyCar to abandon qualifying and set tomorrow night’s grid by entrant points.
An impressive qualifying sim saw championship challenger Alexander Rossi put his Andretti Autosport-Honda at the top of the speed charts at Gateway Motorsports Park, but track moisture and rain sprinkles kept green-flag time to only 22 minutes.
The #6 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports-Honda, raced this year by Robert Wickens, will not be entered in this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park.
