The following is a recap of Thursday's activities.
The Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires held two practice sessions on Thursday for their final race weekend of the year at Sonoma Raceway.
Championship leader Spencer Pigot is looking to win the Pro Mazda Championship and he’s well on his way with a very fast car. In the first session, he posted the second fastest lap with a 1:33.1755 behind session leader Neil Alberico’s 1:33.1320. Jose Gutierrez was third while Kyle Kaiser posted the fourth fastest lap. Title contender Scott Hargrove could only push to fifth place on the timesheet with a 1:33.9366 lap.
The second session saw Kaiser jump to the top of the timesheet with a 1:33.1270 while Pigot remained second on a 1:33.2022 lap. Gutierrez was third over Alberico in fourth and Hargrove remained fifth.
The title contenders look set to do battle on Friday afternoon at 4:20 Pacific time, but the battle behind them for third in the championship will be a big one to look out for as Alberico will be looking to hold off Shelby Blackstock, Garett Grist, Nicolas Costa and Kaiser for third place as 25 points separate five drivers.
