Chennai MRF F1600: Sandeep storms to Race 1 victory

Chennai’s A Sandeep Kumar won the first race in the MRF F1600 category on Saturday.

Race winner Sandeep Kumar, second place Chetan Korada, third place Arya Singh

His citymate Chetan Korada finished second, while Kolkata’s Arya Singh finished third. Amer Beg was fourth.

This race is part of the fourth round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.

Though he started second on the grid, Chetan could not get the better of the pole-sitter from Hyderabad, Anindith Reddy.

Reddy, who eventually finished fifth, was 0.6 seconds ahead initially but at the end of the first lap, Sandeep Kumar had taken the lead and was increasing the gap between himself and Reddy.

Unfortunately, championship leader Reddy lost a part of the front of his car. Sandeep took advantage of the situation and built up a lead of 0.7 seconds after two laps.

Reddy could not continue and had to dive into the pits for a bit of repair.

Now, behind the leader Sandeep were Chetan Korada and Arya Singh.

While Sandeep continued to put on good lap after lap and stay ahead, Korada and Arya were fighting for the second spot.

Arya threatened Korada a lot but the latter hung on to the second spot. Sandeep was now 2.7 seconds ahead of second-placed Korada.

Sandeep seemed to be a man on a mission. After six laps, he was had an advantage of 4.8 seconds.

Meanwhile, Reddy came back into the race and was trying to gain places. Though it was going to be a tough battle, he seemed to be determined to do what he could.

After eight laps, the top three continued to remain the same, but Sandeep kept gaining time over the others.

Sandeep was in supreme form, but Korada was managing to increase the gap between himself and Arya.

Subsequently, there was not much as Sandeep won the race with an 8.8s advantage over Korada.
