Chennai MRF F1600: Sandeep holds off Reddy for fine win
Sandeep Kumar won Race 2 of the MRF F1600, but he had to hold off a charging Anindith Reddy.
Reddy finished second, while Arya Singh was third in Sunday's action at the Madras Motor Race Track. Chetan Korada and Keith Desouza took the next two places.
Hyderabad's Reddy, who started last on the grid for the race, has thus wrapped up the 2017 championship in this class in the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.
Starting on pole position, Ishaan Dodhiwala was 0.6 seconds ahead of Arya, while Desouza was running in the third place after the start of the race.
The order changed after the first lap with Arya taking the lead and sending Dodhiwala to the second spot. Behind too, there was action as Anindith Reddy had already moved up to the fourth spot.
Arya had a huge lead and it was going to be difficult for the others to catch up with him.
Though Arya was doing a good job, the others were catching up with him. Sandeep Kumar was still second and Reddy was in third place.
Lap after lap, it was getting difficult for Sandeep and Reddy kept attacking. With each lap, Reddy was threatening Sandeep for the second spot.
Soon after, with the completion of five laps, Arya was just 0.3s ahead of Sandeep Kumar and Reddy was almost 0.4 seconds behind the second-placed driver.
With just one lap to go, there was a change at the top of the order. Sandeep Kumar had taken the lead, while Reddy was in the second spot. Arya was down in the third spot.
Just before the finish line, Reddy was very close to getting past Sandeep Kumar, but the latter did well to keep the lead for a good race win.
