Chennai MRF F1600: Reddy too good for the field in Race 2

Anindith Reddy overcame Saturday’s fifth-place disappointment and won the MRF F1600 race on Sunday.

Anindith Reddy

The Hyderabad driver leads the category in the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship.

Chennai’s Sandeep Kumar finished second, while his citymate Chetan Korada was third.

Pole sitter Amer Beg, Ishaan Dodhiwala and Arya Singh did not finish the race at the Madras Motor Race Track.

The reverse grid came into place but Korada took the lead in the first lap. Reddy moved up to the second place from fifth place.

At the end of the second lap, Reddy was troubling Korada. But in the last corner of the third lap, Reddy stormed past the Chennai driver and took the lead.

That was all Reddy needed. He has been rather classy with his driving in the season thus far. The Hyderabad driver kept up that momentum and began to pull away from the second-placed Korada.

Korada was overtaken by Sandeep in the fifth lap and the latter began to pull away. Though Sandeep seemed to be putting in good pace, he was in no position to challenge Reddy, who was ahead by three seconds.

With huge gaps already between the drivers, there was hardly any scope for overtaking. But even if they were close enough, overtaking would have been little difficult with the short loop being used.

Beg retired from the race. Dodhiwala (Hyderabad) and Arya (Calcutta) made contact and exited the race in the eighth lap.

Meanwhile, there was no stopping Reddy from taking the win. He won by a handsome margin of 3.8 seconds.
