Chennai III MRF F1600: Anand claims Race 1 win in three-way fight

Vikash Anand took his third MRF F1600 win at the Madras Motor Race Track, in a thrilling first race in the penultimate round of the season.

Starting from pole, Anand lost the lead to a fighting Sandeep Kumar and Anindith Reddy, with the Hyderabad-based driver taking the lead while Kumar and Anand chased him.

The battle for win continued between the three throughout the 10 laps, as Kumar and Anand started to pile pressure on leader Reddy.

On Lap 6, both Reddy and Kumar went off on the same lap at different corners, as Anand took the opportunity and won his third consecutive race in the championship.

Kumar eventually finished second, 0.602s ahead of Reddy, with Raghul Rangasamy fourth and Arjun Narendran completed the top five.

Former Nissan GT Academy driver Abhinay Bikkani finished a lonely sixth, ahead of a charging Karthik Tharani, who was able to race with a spare chassis, after his qualifying crash.

The Chennai-based drivers started last and made up five places to salvage seventh place ahead of Chetan Korada.

The top 10 was completed by Biren Pithawalla at ninth and Tejas Ram 10th.
