Chennai II MRF F1600: Anand takes surprise pole
By:

Vikash Anand took a surprise pole position during the second round of MRF F1600 in Chennai, being the only driver to dip in the 1:40s.

Karthik Tharani, Anindith Reddy and Arjun Narendran traded the top spot for much of the 15 minute qualifying session, before Tharani asserted his authority with a 1m41.012s.

But to everyone’s surprise, Anand went quicker still with a last gasp attempt that yielded pole position for the first race.

As a result, Tharani had to be content with second with Raghul Rangaswamy further behind in third place.

Reddy eventually qualified in fourth position, ahead of Narendran and Delhi’s Lee Keshav.

Further back, last year’s runner up Goutham Parekh was eighth quickest, with Tejas Ram and Chetan Korada completing the top 10.

Actor Jai Sampath and Vibhav Kumar propped up the timesheets with 13th and 14th fastest times of the session respectively.
