Buddh MRF F1600: Chatterjee outduels Reddy to win final race
Nayan Chatterjee came on top in a thrilling duel with Anindith Reddy to win the second MRF F1600 race at the Buddh International Circuit, on Sunday.
On the opening lap of the race, Chatterjee, Reddy and Ananth Shanmugam all passed Alex Bora, demoting the reverse-grid polesitter to fourth place.
Soon after, Shanmugam was tagged by Reddy and fell down to the back of the grid, while Chatterjee and Reddy continued their scrap for victory.
The two drivers traded positions at least four occasions, with Chatterjee always able to regain the lead in the final corner.
The intense battle between the leading duo was eventually settled on Lap 6 when Reddy ran wide at Turn 1, allowing Chatterjee to stretch his advantage at the front of the pack.
The Mumbai-based driver went on to win the race by a margin of 3.332s over Reddy, although the latter's race was compromised with a missing front-right end plate.
Behind the leading duo, Shanmugam recovered from his Lap 1 incident to take the final spot on the podium.
Meanwhile, Anshul Shah finished in fourth position, with Bora holding off Arya Singh to take fifth.
Further back, Chetan Korada was classified seventh, while Angad Matharoo and Vento Cup champion Ishaan Dodhiwala were separated by just 0.218s in eighth and ninth.
At the rear of the field, Vibhav Parkar and Antony George had a battle of their own, with the former just able to get his nose ahead after 8 laps of racing.
