Anindith Reddy sealed his second successive JK Tyre Racing Championship title with victory in the penultimate race of the season at the Buddh International Circuit on Sunday.
Reddy started the race outside the front row but quickly scythed his way through traffic to take second.
On lap 6 he got his nose ahead of race leader Nayan Chatterjee on the backstraight, but the Hyderabad-based driver immediately regained position by braking later into turn 4.
Reddy stayed on the back of Chatterjee and on the following lap made the move stick, despite having to go around the outside at the same corner.
With Chatterjee unable to put on a counter challenge this time, Reddy cruised to his third successive win of the season, and with it clinched the championship with one race to spare.
Guest racer Lorenzo Pegoraro claimed his maiden podium in third, while returnee Diljith T S scored his best result of the weekend in fourth.
Reddy’s title rival Vishnu Prasad had an usually off-day, finishing nearly half a minute down in fifth spot.
Ashwin Datta was next up in sixth, while Nirmal Uma Shankar slipped down to the seventh spot after starting from pole.
Arya Singh was eighth while Mira Erda and Manav Sharma completed the top 10.
