Chennai Honda CBR 250: Kumar takes control with double win
Mathana Kumar won both the Honda CBR 250 category races in Round 2 of the one-make championship at Madras Motor Race Track.
Drama ensued in Race 1 after polesitter Kishore VS retired on the opening lap on Saturday, as a result Kumar took victory beating Rajiv Sethu, the latter charging through 10th to second.
While Sethu made eight places, S Sivanesan gained seven places to complete the podium, just managing to hold off front-row starter Ami Van Poederooijen by mere 0.208s.
Amarnath Menon was sixth ahead of Abhishek V as Sanjeev and Sahay S completed the eight Indian finishers.
Asia Road Racing rider Hari Krishnan was an unfortunate retirement on Lap 2.
In the 150cc Novice category, Piyush Ranjan won from Shreyas Sannake and Anish Shetty.
Kumar doubled up in Race 2
While it was drama in Race 1, he second race saw Kumar doubling up with second straight win over a fighting Abhishek and Sethu.
While Kumar had over six seconds buffer between him and the chasers, the fight for second place saw Abhishek beating Sethu by mere 0.359s.
Behind the leading pack, Krishnan fended off the pressure from Kishore VS as they were separated by just 0.128s over the chequered flag.
Sanjeev finished a distant sixth with Poederooijen and Sahay completing the eight finishers in the race.
While three riders retired, Saturday's podium finisher Sivanesan was disqualified.
The 150cc Novice Race 2 saw Shetty took a close win from Soorya with Mahesh Murali completing the podium - the same top three result repeated in the final race of the weekend.
