Teammates comment on condition of Memo Gidley and Matteo Malucelli following massive crash

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2014) – Memo Gidley, driver of the No. 99 GAINSCO / Bob Stallings Racing Corvette DP, underwent surgical procedures on both his left arm and left leg at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Florida. Gidley also has an unstable fracture in his back which will require additional surgery before he can be released from the hospital. He continues to be evaluated.

Statement from Bob Stallings, owner of GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing on Memo Gidley:

“As you can imagine, we are devastated about what happened yesterday on track, but are hopeful that our friend and teammate Memo will make a full recovery. We want to thank the safety team at Daytona International Speedway for being so diligent in getting Memo out of the car safely and to the hospital. Memo is receiving excellent care from the staff and doctors at Halifax Health. We want to thank everyone for the messages, thoughts and prayers for Memo.”

“We’re extremely relieved that our friend Memo is recovering. That was one scary crash that could have had a much worse outcome. We were able to see him and speak with him this morning. He is one tough guy, and he’s going to pull through this. I told him to take the rest of the day off.”

Matteo Malucelli, driver of the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia, remained at Halifax Health overnight for further evaluation. He continues to rest comfortably. An update on his condition will be provided later today.
