Spirit of Daytona to run Cadillac and new driver lineup
Spirit of Daytona Racing, most recently known as VisitFlorida.com Racing, is to revert to its original name and run a Cadillac DPi-V.R for Tristan Vautier and Matt McMurry in 2018.
The Troy Flis-run team becomes the third squad to enter a Cadillac in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s Prototype category in 2018, as Wayne Taylor Racing will defend the championship in its DPi-V.R and Action Express Racing will continue to enter two.
The #90 Spirit of Daytona Cadillac will be in action for the Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona on January 5-7, and it will be raced by Tristan Vautier, a former Pro Mazda and Indy Lights champion, and Matt McMurry. The team’s third driver for the endurance rounds will be revealed soon, according to the press release.
“The big thing is the opportunity to work with some of the same folks that we were so successful with when we were racing the Corvette Daytona Prototype," said Flis, who this year ran a Ligier piloted by Marc Goossens and Renger van der Zande. "Hopefully that will help us get up to speed with this car quickly. IMSA is going to be even more competitive in 2018 and we are really looking forward to being a factor with our new Cadillac package."
Rich Brekus, Global Director of Product Strategy for Cadillac, said: “We welcome Troy and his team to the Cadillac Racing family. Spirit of Daytona Racing sports a successful track record, taking third last year at the Rolex 24 and winning at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“I am looking forward to seeing the Vector Blue Cadillac DPi-V.R on track next month in Daytona."
