The second hour of the sportscar classic has ended under yellow after a long caution period to retrieve the #11 Lamborghini of Townsend Bell and repair a tire barrier.
Those two events were not unconnected – Bell’s Chase Lamborghini hydroplaned with slicks on a soaking track surface and submarined under a tire wall. Thankfully Bell was able to walk away unhurt.
Subsequent pitstops during the caution period have put Action Express Racing Corvette DPs 1-2 at the head of the field, Christian Fittipaldi leading Dane Cameron.
Similar ’Vette DPs of Marc Goossens (VisitFlorida.com) and Jordan Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing) run third and fourth, pursued by the Michael Shank Racing Ligier-Honda, now driven by Ozz Negri.
In GTLM, Tommy Milner still leads in the #4 Corvette followed by Lucas Luhr in the #100 BMW M6, Nick Tandy in the #911 Porsche entry and Dirk Muller in the Ganassi-run Ford EcoBoost GT. The #25 BMW took heavy hit, serving a time penalty for ignoring a red light in pit road.
Robert Alon leads PC in the PR1/Mathiasen entry after a spin for the #38 Performance Tech car.
GTD has gotten a lot more variety in the top 3 than in the previous hour, with Madison Snow now leading in a Lamborghini Huracan run by Paul Miller Racing, chased by Mario Farnbacher’s Alex Job Racing Porsche and Matt Bell in the #9 Stevenson Motorsports Audi R8 LMS.
