Rolex 24 at Daytona: It’s green, green, green!

The first long-distance sportscar classic of 2015, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, is underway with the pole-sitting Michael Shank Racing Ligier-Honda JSP2 of Ozz Negri leading the field to the green flag, ahead of the Ganassi Racing Riley-Fords.

The action started immediately, as Ganassi's Scott Dixon jumped ahead of Negri through the opening corners, and the IndyCar star led the first lap. Negri held second, ahead of Scott Pruett in the second Ganassi Riley-Ford.

Joao Barbosa ran fourth early on for Action Express in the first of the Corvette DPs, ahead of the DeltaWing of Andy Meyrick. They switched positions after a handful of laps.

In the GTLM class, Oliver Gavin held sway, but Gianmaria Bruni was all over him in the AF Corse Ferrari from the start. The Italian grabbed the lead when Gavin bobbled through the exit of the Bus Stop chicane, finally getting the move made at the exit of Turn 1. Pedro Lamy was close behind them in the sole Aston Martin the class.

There was trouble for Porsche, with the #912 car suffering alternator issues and pitting at the end of the opening lap.

Johnny Mowlem led the Prototype Challenge class for BAR1 Motorsports, but was passed by Colin Braun for top spot in his CORE Autosport car. An early spinner was the #52 car of Tom Kimber-Smith, who looped around causing chaos in the pack on lap one.

In similar fashion, James Davison the GTD field initally, but has been passed by Daniel Serra's Ferrari from fifth on the grid.
