Negri quickest in opening Rolex 24 practice

Michael Shank Racing draws first blood at Daytona.

Daytona Beach, FL - The Pew/Negri Jr./Allmendinger/McMurry team went P1 in the morning practice session on Thursday at Daytona. The bright new Michael Shank Racing Ligier was over a second faster than the Action Express trio who won overall last year. Ganassi's No. 01 DP clocked in third.

Tom Kimber-Smith took the Mathiasen Oreca to the top of the charts in PC while Bill Auberlen in the BMW Z4 (GTLM) and Andy Lally in the Magnus Racing Porsche 911 (GTD) led the GT classes.

The session was stopped only once when the DeltaWing stalled on course, early in the going. The afternoon practice is set to begin at 1:20pm ET.
