Lexus has confirmed plans to enter the GT Daytona (GTD) class, with IndyCar part-timer Sage Karam joining sportscar legend Scott Pruett in the driver lineup.
The marque's RC F GT3 racecar will be run by Paul Gentilozzi's rebranded F Performance Racing team.
A prepared statement read that the car will be fielded in "selected WeatherTech Championship events in 2016 ahead of a planned full-time program in the 2017 season."
IMSA president Scott Atherton declared: “As North America’s premium brand of motorsport, we are honored to welcome one of the world’s most successful premium automotive brands in Lexus back to professional sports car racing.
“We are pleased that Lexus has chosen the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as its racing home in North America."
Lexus previously competed in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series from 2004 through 2009, amassing three Rolex Series team championships with Chip Ganassi Racing, three Rolex 24 at Daytona overall victories and 25 overall race victories.
Sage Karam was recently confirmed as an Indy 500 entrant for the third time, at Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
