Hour 8: Shank on top; PR1/Mathiasen dominating PC

Tony Kanaan led in the CGR Riley-Ford having pitted just before a caution period, but it took Ozz Negri just a lap to hit the front after a restart.

Perhaps more remarkably, Ricky Taylor took the WTR Corvette DP from fourth into the lead, past Kanaan at the drop of the green. But at the start of the 244th lap, he had to concede to Negri’s Ligier-Honda.

Taylor continued to hold second ahead of Kanaan, while the recently-penalized Visit Florida Corvette DP ran fourth with Marc Goossens at the wheel. Fifth and sixth were the Action Express pair of Filipe Albuquerque and Eric Curran.

In GTLM, Jan Magnussen had the #3 Corvette at the front leading the works Porsches of Earl Bamber and Kevin Estre, with Oliver Gavin’s Corvette in fourth. But following the restart, Bamber edged to the front in Porsche #912, and James Calado sent the SMP Ferrari 488 past Gavin into third.

Tom Kimber-Smith (PR1/Mathiasen) is two laps ahead of Brendan Gaughan (BAR1) in the Prototype Challenge class.

It was a GTD car, Ben Keating’s #33 Viper, that caused the latest yellow. But it’s not altered the order at the top of the class. The #48 Lamborghini leads the #44 Audi R8 and the #23 Porsche 911 which now has Wolf Henzler at the wheel.
