Hour 22: ESM hit with pit lane penalty as Larson crashes out

Wayne Taylor Racing has the upper hand heading into the final two hours of the 24 Hours at Daytona.

Hour 22: ESM hit with pit lane penalty as Larson crashes out

At the start of Hour 22, Ricky Taylor got behind the wheel of the No. 10, leading the entire hour unchallenged after a dramatic penalty took some of the pressure off the Wayne Taylor racing entry.

Race officials brought the No. 2 ESM Ligier down pit road for a drive-through, saying the car sped in the lane during their stop.

As van Overbeek scrambled to gain back the lost time, he was assisted by the 21st safety car intervention of the race. With brake issues, Kyle Larson stuffed the nose of the No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing DP into a tire barrier, sustaining major damage in the impact.

The ESM entry pitted with ten minutes left in the hour, putting Pipo Derani in the car. The WTR bunch followed suit. Stuck behind the No. 01 Ganassi DP, Taylor's lead is diminishing rapidly.

Mike Rockenfeller holds the top spot for Corvette in GTLM while Stephen Simpson and the No. 85 JDC-Miller crew still command the PC class. GTD is still anyone's game with the Swan Racing Porsche of Patrick Long out front.
