DeltaWing Coupe to start seventh in Canada
Team hopes steady progress throughout the weekend yields a solid result on Sunday.
Bowmanville, Ont. – The Claro/TracFone DeltaWing Racing Cars team will start seventh in tomorrow’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance after a qualifying session that saw the team put the cumulative knowledge it has gained this season to solid use.
Between testing time and track time, drivers Katherine Legge and Memo Rojas and race engineer Catherine Crawford have worked hard to find the car’s best balance following significant changes to the DeltaWing Coupe chassis earlier this year. The team is also anxious to replace the memories of last year’s fire, which occurred during Friday afternoon practice at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park and damaged the chassis beyond repair.
What makes this car fast is not necessarily what makes every other car fast.

Working through modifications during three practice sessions, Legge and Rojas steadily climbed the timing charts. In qualifying, Legge pushed the lap times forward through the session, ending with a quick time of 1:11.276. The team will start seventh in tomorrow’s two hour and 45-minute TUDOR United SportsCar Championship event.
Katherine Legge: “We’ve made some progress, both backwards and forwards, but that’s also helped us improve in the learning process. What makes this car fast is not necessarily what makes every other car fast. Catherine has made significant changes and things seem to be going in the right direction. We’re closer than we’ve been all year, apart from Daytona. We still have work to do to be able to fight for the podium, but it’s a good race car. It’s predictable. Qualifying was basically in the same conditions we’ll race in tomorrow, so we have a good amount of knowledge regarding what we can expect. We should be in good shape - hopefully we can put together everything we’ve learned and have a good race to the finish.”
Tim Keene: “This is about where we thought we should be, Katherine did a great job. We’re closer than we’ve been all season, with the exception of Daytona. We’ve found some things this weekend that tell us we’re going in the right direction so we need to continue that. We were a little discouraged that we weren’t quicker at Watkins Glen so we put some collective minds together and got a better idea of the direction we want to go. If we can keep this momentum up, we can have a good performance on track. Finishing on the lead lap, in the top five would be a positive result.”
The Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix Presented by Hawk Performance will be broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 Sunday from Noon to 3:00 p.m ET.
