Alonso turns first laps of Daytona in Roar test
Formula 1 star Fernando Alonso has turned his first laps of the Daytona International Speedway today as he gears up for the Rolex 24 Hours later this month.
Wearing his special white helmet design, Alonso got behind the wheel of his United Autosports Ligier JS P217 just before lunchtime on the opening day of the Roar Before The 24 test.
Alonso has previously tested the car at the Aragon circuit in Spain, but this is the first time he’s driven alongside teammates Lando Norris and Phil Hanson in the #23 car.
Ahead of today’s test, Alonso said: “In the last couple of months I have been spending time watching several Daytona 24 Hours, which made me even keener to go out there and try myself. It’s going to be fun!”
In cold but sunny conditions, his first flying lap was a 1m40.992s. Stay tuned to Motorsport.com for all the updates from Daytona.
