SONOMA, Calif. (July 12, 1997) -- Officials from Professional SportsCar Racing and Toyo Tire USA announced today that Toyo will continue as the official tire of the SPEEDVISION Cup for Stock SportsCars for the next three years. Toyo became the official tire of the series in 1995 and the new agreement will see Toyo tires on SPEEDVISION Cup cars into the next century.
"We're proud to renew our commitment to SportsCar and the SPEEDVISION Cup," said Roy Dencklau, Toyo's Motorsports Manager. "Toyo has built a good foundation over the last three years by exhibiting the performance, durability and quality of the Toyo product to drivers and spectators in a variety of conditions: the high banks and high speeds of Daytona, the heavy springtime rains at Sebring and Atlanta, and the extreme heat here at Sears Point. This performance was accomplished with a street legal DOT-approved tire built to the same high standards as Toyo's entire line of passenger tires available to motorists throughout the world. ' We intend to build on this solid foundation with our partners SportsCar and Speedvision," said Dencklau. "SportsCar provides Toyo with a stage to showcase our product and Speedvision exposes our product in the U.S and around the world. During the next three years Toyo intends to take advantage of these opportunities with increased promotional activities."
"Toyo Tires have proved themselves on the race track and are extremely popular with our competitors," said Jack Long, President/CEO of SportsCar. "We're pleased to have Toyo returning and are excited about their promotional plans for the SPEEDVISION Cup."
The SPEEDVISION Cup for Stock SportsCars features today's best practical sports coupes and sedans with safety and limited performance modifications. All cars compete on Toyo Proxes RA-1 tires and are all fueled by 93 octane Exxon Supreme.
