IMSA WSC champ Wayne Taylor will return in 1997 with Doyle Racing. They will again enter an Olds powered R&S chassis, but will build their own engines. (Olds factory is now building IRL engines.) Toshiba and Danka will be primary sponsors. Taylor will be joined at Daytona and Sebring by Eric van de Poele and Scott Sharp.

IMSA's GT catagories will be shuffled in 1997. GTS-1 will stay as is but GTS-2 will become GTS-3. A new GTS-2 catagory has been formed similar to international GT2. This class consists of heavily modified cars such as Ferrari F550, Viper, Lotus Esprit and Corvette.
