TAMPA, Fla (May 8, 1997) -- Two schedule adjustments have been made to the 1997 Professional SportsCar Racing (SportsCar) calendar following the announcement last week that SportsCar’s parent company, the International Motor Sports Group (IMSG), will operate Mosport Park in Ontario, Canada for at least the next 40 years and has the exclusive rights to all events at the facility during that time. The first major event under the IMSG banner will be Labor Day weekend, August 28 - 31. That’s when SportsCar’s Exxon World SportsCar Championship, Exxon Supreme GT Series presented by Virgin Interactive, SPEEDVISION Cup for Stock SportsCars and Black Magic Pro Series will race at Mosport Park. The SportsCar weekend had previously been scheduled for August 15 - 17. The new Labor Day weekend event will also feature the SCCA Trans-Am Championship, World Challenge Championship and Spec Racer Ford Pro Series, which had previously been scheduled May 16 - 18 at Mosport Park. SportsCar’s Ferrari Challenge event that is scheduled at Mosport Park the weekend of July 5 - 6 will take place as planned. The June 20 - 22 race weekend featuring SportsCar’s SPEEDVISION Cup and Black Magic Pro Series has been canceled. "We have a lot of work to do on both construction and promotion at Mosport Park before we have our first major event," said Andrew Evans, IMSG principal. "We need time to make some renovations to the track and to properly plan our event advertising and promotion. We are attempting to reschedule June’s SPEEDVISION Cup and Black Magic Pro Series weekend, and will make an announcement one way or the other before the end of the month." A Mosport Park ticket hotline has been established in Canada for fans to leave their name, address and phone number in order to receive ticket information for upcoming events. The number in Canada is (800) 223-6230.
