FEINBERG WINS CAUTION-FILLED RACE AT ROAD AMERICA
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. August 15 -- Joel Feinberg, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., led when it counted most, the last caution period, to win round nine of the IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire at legendary Road America.
Feinberg started first along side Gary Gibson, Riverwoods, Ill. After two wave offs for the start the field finally took the green flag.
"I felt like I had the fastest car on the track without a doubt. I put it down right away on lap one and proved to be quick enough to get away," Feinberg explained. "Unfortunately the incidents on course gave us those two restarts, so the guys behind me had a shot at getting it back together."
Unfortunately Matt Downs, who came to Road America the Lites One point leader, was involved in an incident with his brother Lucas, that brought out the first caution period of the race.
The driver who capitalized most on the restarts was Jonathan Gore, driver of the Foretravel Motorcoach car. Gore started eighth and worked his way up to third in the 30-minute race.
"I made a couple of positions up on the start of the race. All of my starts were really good," Gore said. "I was right behind Charlie, my teammate. He had a bad run coming out of 13 and I got him there for third."
Chris Doyle continues to lead the Lites Three class, winning his fifth race of the season. On his way to victory Feinberg set a new race-lap record that will put him on pole for tomorrow's round 10 taking place at 12:40 p.m.
The IMSA Lites presented by Frisby Performance Tire is a championship comprised of 14 rounds at seven famous tracks in North America including Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla., Miller Motorsports Park, Tooele, Utah. and Road Atlanta, Braselton, Ga.
